The Kong
Every Miniature Pinscher owner
should have a Kong, a bouncy dog toy made of red natural rubber. The Kong has a
hollow center, which you can fill with food or treats. The Kongs we’ve bought over the years have
provided hours of entertainment for our dog. Here are a few reasons you may
want to get a Kong too: ·
You can use the Kongs to play with
your dog in the back yard, tossing it up high enough for your dog to jump and
catch it mid-air, or around the house, in a game of catch and chew. ·
A Kong is one of several toys you
can use to help minimize your dog’s boredom and separation anxiety while you’re
away at work. I also like the Kong
because the chewing helps improve my dog’s oral health. Don’t be surprised when your dog
comes to you and tosses you her Kong. That’s your cue to fill the Kong’s with a
puppy drumstick treat or chunks of carrot. A dab of peanut butter spread around
the inside is also very effective. Some even fill them with frozen treats. My
dog works at his Kong for as long as it takes him to clean it out. I know of a
few people who’ve given their dogs more than one stuffed Kong at a time to buy
themselves some extra time to do chores around the house.
“Yumm—peanut
butter… my favorite!” A Kong is guaranteed to entertain your dog as much as it
does mine. Look at his tongue.
